Bangladesh has appointed a new senior official to its communications sector, with Bilquis Jahan Rimi taking up the role of secretary at the Posts and Telecommunications Ministry.

The appointment marks a continuation of administrative reshuffles within the government, as experienced officials are reassigned to key sectors. Officials said the newly appointed secretary formally assumed her duties after submitting her joining documents at the Secretariat.

She was received by Faqir Mahbub Anam, who oversees the ministry responsible for posts, telecommunications and information technology. The meeting marked the formal beginning of her tenure in the role.

Bilquis Jahan Rimi brings extensive experience in public administration, having served in multiple government office over the course of her career. A member of the 17th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration cadre), she has held a range of positions that have contributed to her administrative expertise.

Her appointment follows a recent transfer from the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, reflecting the government’s approach of rotating senior officials across sectors to strengthen institutional capacity and governance.

The Posts and Telecommunications Ministry plays a central role in overseeing Bangladesh’s rapidly evolving digital and communications landscape, including infrastructure development, regulatory frameworks and service delivery. Leadership at the secretary level is seen as critical in steering policy implementation and ensuring coordination across agencies.

Analysts note that such administrative changes are part of routine governance processes, aimed at aligning expertise with sectoral priorities. In the case of the telecommunications sector, this comes at a time when Bangladesh continues to expand digital services and connectivity as part of its broader development strategy.

While no immediate policy shifts have been announced, the transition in leadership is expected to support ongoing initiatives within the ministry, particularly those related to digital infrastructure and public service delivery.

As she assumes her new responsibilities, attention will focus on how the ministry advances its agenda in a sector that remains integral to economic growth and technological progress in Bangladesh.
