Bogura, a significant and ancient city of Bangladesh, will be officially declared as the country’s 13th city corporation on Monday. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will formally announce this avowal on the said day.

The PM will unveil a plaque of the newly constituted Bogura City Corporation at the municipal building in the town at 11:30 am on Monday, Bogura district BNP General Secretary Mosharraf Hossain affirmed.

He said besides that the Prime Minister will also inaugurate several other programmes, including the distribution of Family Card and canal excavation, and address a rally in the district.

Vice Chancellor of Naogaon University Professor Dr Moh Hasanat Ali said that declaring Bogura as a city corporation was a long-standing demand of the district’s residents.

At present, Bogura Municipality is the largest municipality in the country in terms of area and population, he added, therefore, it was a logical and appropriate demand to declare Bogura as a city corporation.

“The people of Bogura have been deprived of development for the last 17 years due to political reasons. They are deprived of various civic facilities, Hasanat Ali uttered thereafter, this is undoubtedly good news that finally Bogura is going to be turned into metropolitan city”.

“I hope through this, Bogura will become a planned and aesthetic city,” he expressed.

This is BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman’s first visit to Bogura after assuming office as the Prime Minister following a landslide victory in the 13th national parliamentary elections held on February 12.
