Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday warned of renewed attempts to destabilise Bangladesh, alleging that certain groups are trying to create confusion and unrest by misleading the public.

He called on citizens to remain united and vigilant against what he described as “clandestine forces” that do not believe in Bangladesh’s independence or existence.

Speaking at a public rally organised by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party at Altafunnessa Playground in Bogura, Tarique Rahman said similar efforts to mislead the nation had been seen at different points in history, including before and after independence and during key political transitions.

He claimed that such elements had also attempted to create confusion around the recent election and are now doing the same regarding the July National Charter.

The Prime Minister said his government remains committed to implementing the charter in full, despite criticism and remarks from some political quarters both inside and outside Parliament.

He questioned the credibility of those opposing the charter, suggesting they had historically aligned with forces that undermined democratic processes.

Referring to past political events, he cited examples from different years where, according to him, efforts were made to mislead the public or create instability.

He also criticised attempts to politicise isolated incidents, mentioning a recent case in Mymensingh, which he described as a personal matter that was deliberately given a political dimension.

Tarique Rahman further accused opposition groups of ignoring issues such as women’s empowerment and development while focusing instead on agitation.

He referenced earlier criticism of the government’s Family Card programme, saying such initiatives are aimed at supporting ordinary people.

Reiterating his government’s priorities, the Prime Minister highlighted ongoing programmes, including Family Cards, Farmer Cards, agricultural loan waivers up to Tk10,000, support for religious leaders, environmental initiatives, and employment generation at home and abroad.

He said these steps reflect the government’s commitment to fulfilling its election promises.

He also announced that work on the Bogura-Sirajganj railway line would begin soon and noted efforts to expand agricultural exports from Bogura and the northern region.

The rally began around 5:30pm, with large crowds gathering at the venue and surrounding areas well in advance. Tarique Rahman arrived shortly after 5:40pm following a visit to his ancestral home in Bagbari of Gabtali Upazila.

After addressing the rally, the Prime Minister inaugurated the new building of the Bogura Press Club and launched reconstruction work on the Baitur Rahman Central Mosque, concluding his day-long visit to the district.
