Iran has assured the safe passage of Bangladeshi vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, while praising Dhaka’s balanced diplomatic position on Middle East issues and calling for stronger bilateral ties.

In a statement issued by the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka, Tehran said it appreciated Bangladesh’s approach to regional developments and highlighted the need to expand cooperation between the two countries. It described relations as long-standing and based on mutual respect and shared values and reaffirmed its commitment to non-interference in internal affairs.

The embassy welcomed a recent meeting between Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. It expressed optimism that the engagement would lead to closer cooperation.

It said Iran had taken steps to ensure the safe movement of Bangladeshi vessels through the Strait of Hormuz and had facilitated the evacuation of 186 Bangladeshi nationals via Azerbaijan.

The statement also praised Bangladesh’s role in promoting peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy, noting its significance for both the region and the wider international community.

The embassy conveyed appreciation for Bangladesh’s message of condolence following the reported martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It also acknowledged Dhaka’s humanitarian support, including emergency medical assistance provided through the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.

At the same time, the embassy expressed concern over what it described as selective and inaccurate reporting on Middle East developments and called for responsible journalism.

Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening ties, the embassy urged both sides to uphold mutual respect and avoid actions that could lead to misunderstandings between the two countries.
