Bangladesh has dispatched a consignment of emergency medical supplies to Iran in response to the ongoing humanitarian situation in the region.

The assistance was sent under the directive of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and coordinated through the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS).

The aid package, consisting of essential medicines and medical equipment, was formally handed over in Dhaka to Iranian Ambassador Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi on Thursday.

The supplies will be transported to Iran to support those affected by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

The handover ceremony took place at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka, with senior government representatives in attendance. Among them were Foreign Ministry Secretary (Bilateral) Dr Md Nazrul Islam and Director General of the West Asia Wing Md Humayun Kabir, who represented the government during the event.

Earlier this month, on 6 April, the Prime Minister approved a grant of Tk1 crore to the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society to procure the urgently needed supplies.

Officials said the initiative reflects Bangladesh’s continued commitment to humanitarian assistance during times of global crisis.

Speaking at the event, Dr Nazrul Islam expressed concern over the humanitarian consequences of the conflict and emphasised the importance of peaceful dialogue to restore stability.

Ambassador Jahanabadi conveyed his appreciation for Bangladesh’s support, noting that such gestures strengthen the longstanding friendly ties between the two nations.

BDRCS Secretary General Dr Kabir M Ashraf Alam also reaffirmed the organisation’s dedication to assisting vulnerable populations worldwide, describing the aid as part of its broader humanitarian mission.
