Security has been significantly strengthened at all eight airports in Bangladesh, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, following intelligence alerts regarding possible threats to key installations.
Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq confirmed the development at a media briefing held at the CAAB headquarters in Dhaka on Monday.
He said the enhanced security measures were introduced after CAAB received instructions from Police Headquarters to step up vigilance across all airports.
“We received a letter from Police Headquarters asking us to strengthen security. Accordingly, we have issued a security alert,” he said, adding that all necessary measures were implemented in line with official directives.
Relevant sources said airport surveillance has been intensified in response to recent security concerns. Additional personnel have been deployed at critical entry points, terminal areas, and sensitive zones, particularly at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Following the alert, CAAB issued a high-security warning and instructed all law enforcement agencies stationed at airports to take special precautionary measures. Intelligence monitoring has also been increased to ensure tighter oversight of airport activities.
Security arrangements around important airport infrastructure have been reinforced, while both uniformed and plainclothes officers have been deployed in greater numbers.
Authorities also confirmed that passenger screening procedures at arrival and departure points have been tightened further as part of the upgraded security protocol.
