Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday announced that the government has adopted comprehensive and targeted plans to ensure access to justice for financially disadvantaged citizens across Bangladesh.

He made the remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the “National Legal Aid Day-2026” programme held at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed International Convention Centre in the capital in the afternoon.

Highlighting the importance of equal justice, the Prime Minister said that access to legal protection is a fundamental constitutional right.

Referring to Article 27 of the Constitution, he noted that all citizens are equal before the law and are entitled to equal protection, which aligns with global human rights principles.

He stressed that in a democratic society, it is unacceptable for individuals to be deprived of justice due to poverty or financial limitations.

“The government believes that every citizen, regardless of economic status, must have the opportunity to seek legal remedies and protection under the law,” he said.

Tarique Rahman added that the government’s initiatives aim to remove financial barriers that often prevent vulnerable groups from accessing legal services. These plans are expected to strengthen legal aid mechanisms, expand outreach, and ensure that justice is not limited to those who can afford it.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, the Prime Minister said ensuring equal access to justice is essential for building a fair, inclusive, and accountable society where the rule of law prevails.
