The Parliament Secretariat Commission has approved a budget of Tk290.60 crore for the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, with the bulk of the allocation designated for operational expenses.
Of the total amount, Tk289.90 crore has been set aside for operational costs, while Tk70 lakh will be spent on development activities.
The approval came at the 37th meeting of the Parliament Secretariat Commission held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday, presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman, Opposition Leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman, and Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal. Chief Whip Nurul Islam was also present by special invitation.
Alongside the new budget, the commission also approved a revised allocation for the current 2025-2026 fiscal year, amounting to Tk226.69 crore. Of this, Tk226.49 crore was allocated for operational purposes and Tk20 lakh for development expenditure.
At the beginning of the session, the commission confirmed the minutes of its 36th meeting and reviewed the progress made in implementing previous decisions.
Members also discussed the status of ongoing development projects under the Parliament Secretariat.
The meeting agenda was presented by Secretary of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Barrister Md Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan in the presence of senior officials from the Secretariat and relevant ministries.
