A total of 49 candidates have been elected uncontested to the reserved women’s seats in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, as no withdrawals were made on the final day.

With the number of valid candidates matching the number of seats, all nominees were declared elected unopposed. The Election Commission (EC) is set to issue the official gazette in this regard on Thursday.

Returning Officer and EC Joint Secretary Md Moin Uddin Khan announced the development at a briefing at the EC office in the capital’s Agargaon on Wednesday. He said the withdrawal period remained open from 9am to 4pm, but no candidate opted to pull out.

“In line with legal provisions, the list of 49 valid candidates will be placed before the commission for gazette notification,” he said.

Among those elected, 36 candidates belong to the ruling BNP-led alliance, 12 are from the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance, and one candidate represents an independent group.

Following publication of the gazette, the EC Secretariat will forward the documents to the Parliament Secretariat to facilitate the oath-taking process.

One reserved seat, out of a total of 50, remains pending due to legal complications. The nomination of National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Nusrat Tabassum was initially rejected over late submission. She later challenged the decision by filing a writ petition (No-5022/2026) with the High Court.

The court has instructed the EC to accept her nomination, complete scrutiny, and resolve the matter within 72 hours. The commission is currently proceeding in accordance with the directive, Moin Uddin Khan added.

Separately, Jamaat alliance candidate Monira Sharmin had her nomination rejected earlier for not completing the required three-year period after leaving government service. The EC said it has not yet received any information regarding an appeal from her side.

Moin Uddin Khan further said that the final decision on the remaining seat will be taken in accordance with legal provisions once the issue involving Nusrat Tabassum is resolved.
