BNP Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday underscored the importance of conducting extensive research on the life, philosophy and governance of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, calling for a broader effort to present his contributions to the public.

Speaking at a memorial discussion and prayer event at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Mirza Fakhrul urged the Zia Parishad to expand its activities and work towards highlighting what he described as the “true history” of the BNP founder.

The programme was organised to commemorate the late Prof Dr Md Abdul Quddus, a renowned ophthalmologist, freedom fighter and chairman of Zia Parishad.

Mirza Fakhrul paid tribute to Abdul Quddus, describing him as an honest, principled and humble individual who made significant contributions both as a physician and a patriot.

He said Abdul Quddus dedicated his life to serving people and the nation, adding that his ideals should serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.

“Though we have lost him, his values and work will continue to guide us,” Mirza Fakhrul noted.

The event was chaired by Md Abdul Latif, who also highlighted Abdul Quddus’s quiet yet impactful contributions to society. He described the late professor as a selfless organiser committed to public welfare.

Academics, political leaders, professionals and students attended the programme. The event concluded with special prayers for the departed soul of Prof Dr Abdul Quddus.
