17 senior police officers sent into compulsory retirement in Bangladesh

The government has placed 17 senior officials of the Bangladesh Police into compulsory retirement as part of an administrative decision taken in the public interest.

The officers include 16 deputy inspectors general (DIGs) and one additional DIG, according to an official gazette notification issued on Sunday. All of them belong to the BCS (Police) cadre.

The order was issued under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018, and signed by Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury of the Ministry of Home Affairs on behalf of the President.

Those affected by the decision include senior officers serving in various key units such as the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), Highway Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), National Security Intelligence (NSI), Police Staff College, Tourist Police, River Police, Railway Police, and multiple Police Training Centres across the country.

Among them are DIGs Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, Imtiaz Ahmed, Md Habibur Rahman, Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, Md Harun-or-Rashid, SM Akhteruzzaman, Md Haidar Ali Khan, Md Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan, Md Ruhul Amin, Md Rafiqul Hassan Gani, Md Mizanur Rahman, Md Mazid Ali, Kazi Zia Uddin, Md Golam Raufe Khan, Sheikh Mohammad Rezaul Haidar, Rakhfar Sultana, and Additional DIG Farhat Ahmed.

The notification stated that the officials will receive all retirement benefits in accordance with existing rules. It also clarified that the decision has been made in the interest of the state and takes immediate effect.

Earlier, on 22 April, the government had similarly sent 13 senior police officials into compulsory retirement, indicating a continuing administrative reshuffle within the force.
