The body of Bangladeshi PhD student Zamil Ahmed Limon, who was killed in the US state of Florida, has been repatriated to Bangladesh.

The aircraft carrying his remains arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:47am on Monday.

According to the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, Limon’s body was flown from Orlando International Airport on an Emirates flight late Saturday night local time.

Before the repatriation, a funeral prayer was held on Thursday at an Islamic centre in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, where fellow students from the University of South Florida and members of the Bangladeshi community gathered to pay their respects.

Limon, along with fellow Bangladeshi PhD student Nahida Bristy, had been reported missing on 16 April. His body was recovered on 24 April, while Bristy’s remains were identified on 30 April after forensic examinations.

Authorities in the United States have arrested Limon’s roommate, Hisham Abugharbeih, in connection with the killings. Court documents filed in Hillsborough County state that Limon died from multiple stab wounds. The suspect has been charged with two counts of first-degree premeditated murder.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway to bring back the body of Nahida Sultana Bristy. Following her funeral prayer in the US, her family has requested expedited arrangements for the repatriation of her remains to Bangladesh.
