A writ petition has been lodged with the High Court challenging the legality of actions taken during the tenure of the interim government headed by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.

The petition raises questions over the validity of a wide range of decisions made by the administration, including the enactment of laws, establishment of reform commissions, and the signing of both domestic and international agreements. It also calls for the formation of an independent inquiry commission to examine these actions in detail.

In addition, the writ seeks a judicial review into whether any allegations of corruption were brought against Dr Yunus during his time as chief adviser.

The petition was filed on Sunday by senior Supreme Court lawyer Muhammad Mohsin Rashid in the public interest before the High Court Division. The Cabinet Secretary, along with the secretaries of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, have been named as respondents.

Confirming the matter on Monday, the petitioner said a detailed briefing on the issue would be provided later in the day at 1pm.

This is not the first legal challenge brought by the same lawyer regarding the interim administration. Earlier, he had filed another writ questioning the legality of the oath-taking and formation process of the Yunus-led government. That petition, however, was dismissed by a High Court bench, prompting him to file an appeal.

Subsequently, on 4 December 2024, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s decision, effectively validating the oath-taking and formation of the interim government under Dr Yunus.

The latest petition now seeks to reopen scrutiny of the government’s actions during its tenure, bringing fresh legal attention to decisions made during that period.
