Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman has highlighted the importance of coordinated civil-military efforts in successfully conducting the recent national election, describing it as a major milestone in Bangladesh’s electoral history.
He made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking at the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference 2026 held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka, where senior civil administrators and top military officials gathered to review governance and administrative coordination.
The army chief said the outcome of the election reflected effective teamwork between field administration and armed forces, arguing that such cooperation was essential in managing large-scale national responsibilities.
He added that the ability to work jointly across institutions demonstrated the country’s administrative strength.
According to him, there had previously been uncertainty and speculation over whether the election could be held smoothly, with concerns raised in different quarters. However, he said those doubts were overcome through collective effort and structured coordination among stakeholders.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman praised deputy commissioners for their role in ensuring the election process was carried out effectively, noting that operational responsibilities were largely managed by the civil administration, with support from security forces where required.
He also reiterated that the armed forces remain prepared to assist the civil administration whenever necessary. This includes support in emergency situations such as natural disasters, accidents, and other unforeseen crises, upon formal request.
Before the army chief’s address, the chiefs of the navy and air force, along with the Prime Minister’s defence adviser, also spoke at the conference, emphasising inter-agency cooperation in national administration.
The discussions underscored the importance of institutional coordination in maintaining stability and ensuring smooth governance during critical national events such as elections.
