Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said he does not expect any “pushback” incidents into Bangladesh following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory in the West Bengal elections.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday after a session on the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka, the minister said the situation was being closely monitored.
“Despite this, we have instructed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to remain alert along the frontiers so they can respond promptly if any such incident occurs,” he said.
Salahuddin Ahmed expressed confidence that tensions would not escalate along the border following the election outcome in the neighbouring Indian state.
“I hope no such incident will happen,” he added.
