Bangladesh Police has sought Italy’s assistance to strengthen its cyber security capabilities and enhance specialised training in key areas of law enforcement.
The request was made by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir during a courtesy meeting with Italian Ambassador Dr Antonio Alessandro at Police Headquarters in Dhaka on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the police chief highlighted the growing importance of cyber security in modern law enforcement and stressed the need for advanced skills and technical expertise to tackle emerging digital threats.
He emphasised that strengthening cooperation with international partners like Italy would play a crucial role in building institutional capacity.
Ali Hossain Fakir also underscored the importance of closer coordination between the law enforcement agencies of Bangladesh and Italy to address transnational crimes and evolving security challenges.
In response, Ambassador Alessandro expressed interest in expanding existing collaboration between the two countries, particularly in areas related to training and capacity building. He noted that Italy is willing to support Bangladesh Police in improving skills and knowledge in various sectors, including cyber security.
The discussions also covered broader areas of cooperation such as tackling irregular migration, combating human trafficking, preventing smuggling, and enhancing overall security mechanisms.
Officials said the meeting reflected a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in law enforcement and addressing common challenges through knowledge sharing and training initiatives.
Senior officials of Bangladesh Police were also present during the meeting, which concluded with both sides expressing optimism about deepening collaboration in the coming years.
