A DNA test has exonerated an Imam in the Parshuram area of Feni after he was falsely accused of rape, revealing that the teenage victim’s own brother is the biological father of her child.

Mozaffar Ahmad, 25, was officially acquitted by the court on 17 April following a comprehensive investigation that saw him spend over a month in prison. Authorities have now submitted a formal charge sheet against the girl’s brother, 22-year-old Morshed, who remains in custody at Feni District Jail.

The case originated from an incident involving a 14-year-old girl who had attended religious lessons at a local maktab in 2019. When she became pregnant five years later, the blame was directed toward her former teacher.

A rape case was filed against Mozaffar Ahmad at Parshuram Model Police Station on 24 November 2024. Despite his protestations of innocence, the teacher was detained two days later. He was allegedly handed over to the police by a local village leader and a woman while attempting to file a counter-complaint alleging false accusations.

The investigation pivoted on 22 December 2024, when Mozaffar Ahmad was taken to the CID Forensic Laboratory in Dhaka for testing. A report received by Sub-Inspector Zahidul Islam on 21 January 2025 confirmed that no traces of the Imam’s DNA were present in vaginal swabs collected from the victim. Under subsequent police questioning, the victim confessed that her elder brother had repeatedly raped her. Morshed was arrested on 19 May 2025 and provided a confessional statement under Section 164 the following day.

Further forensic analysis conducted in August 2025 compared samples from the victim, the newborn, and the brother. The results, released on 9 August, established a 99.99% probability that Morshed was the biological father.

Following these findings, police withdrew the Imam’s name from the charge sheet. Parshuram Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ashraful Islam described the incident as a clear attempt to frame an innocent man, noting that the false accusation has had a devastating impact on the community.

Although his name has been cleared, the ordeal has left Mozaffar Ahmad financially and mentally broken. The former teacher lost his positions as an Imam at the Uttar Teteswar West Para Jamme Mosque and as a staff member with the Islamic Foundation.

To cover his legal expenses, the cleric was forced to sell land adjacent to his home. Mozaffar Ahmad stated that while the truth has prevailed, he has suffered significant social and family humiliation. He is now demanding compensation for his period of imprisonment, the damage to his reputation, and his substantial financial losses.
