Bangladesh and Pakistan have expressed interest in expanding cooperation across multiple sectors as both countries seek to strengthen bilateral engagement and promote greater regional collaboration in South Asia.
The issues were discussed on Saturday during a meeting between Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and Pakistan’s Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi at a hotel in Dhaka.
During the talks, the two sides reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and acknowledged the recent increase in diplomatic engagement between the two countries. They expressed optimism that the growing momentum could open new opportunities for cooperation in several priority areas.
According to sources concerned, discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in trade and commerce, education, science and technology, sports, culture, women entrepreneurship and digital innovation. Both ministers noted that substantial untapped potential still exists in these sectors and emphasised the importance of exploring new partnerships and exchanges.
The meeting also highlighted the need to strengthen people-to-people contact and institutional cooperation to deepen mutual understanding and improve bilateral relations further.
Shama Obaed Islam reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to revitalising the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), describing the regional platform as important for promoting economic prosperity and collective development across South Asia.
Both sides stressed that stronger regional cooperation would benefit the people of the region and contribute to greater stability and connectivity among South Asian nations.
