Nine deaths reported in 24 hours as measles cases surge nationwide

Nine more people have died from measles and related symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

In a statement released on Saturday, the DGHS Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room confirmed that three of the deceased were verified measles patients.

The remaining six individuals died while exhibiting symptoms associated with the disease.

The latest figures bring the total number of confirmed measles deaths to 61 since 15 March.

During the same period, health authorities have recorded 291 deaths involving patients with suspected symptoms.

The scale of the outbreak is reflected in the official data, which shows 6,979 confirmed cases and a further 47,656 suspected infections.

Pressure on the healthcare system remains high, with 33,631 suspected patients admitted to hospitals nationwide so far.

Of those hospitalised, 29,746 individuals have recovered and been discharged from medical facilities.
