President Mohammed Shahabuddin has called for transforming Bangladesh Police into a more humane, citizen-focused and technology-enabled institution, saying modern policing must adapt to rapidly changing technological and social challenges.

In a message issued on the occasion of Police Week 2026, the President conveyed greetings and appreciation to all members of Bangladesh Police, describing the force as a long-standing institution responsible for maintaining law and order and ensuring national security.

He paid tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, including during the Liberation War, and prayed for the peace of their departed souls.

The President said the stability and development of the country depend significantly on the professionalism, integrity, discipline and dedication of law enforcement agencies.

He also expressed satisfaction over the role of the police during the recently held 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, which he said were conducted in a peaceful and credible manner.

Shahabuddin noted that the nature of crime is evolving due to advancements in information technology. He pointed out that cybercrime, artificial intelligence-based offences and deepfake technology are emerging challenges that require upgraded skills and preparedness from law enforcement personnel.

He stressed the importance of modern training, technological capacity building and ethical policing to effectively address these new threats. At the same time, he highlighted the need to strengthen accountability and transparency within the force.

The President also underscored the importance of community policing, respect for human rights and improved public engagement to build trust between police and citizens.

He expressed hope that ongoing reform efforts would help turn Bangladesh Police into a more service-oriented institution and urged continued commitment to the rule of law and public service.
