Students must dream big: State Minister for LGRD

State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam on Sunday stressed the importance of physical exercise and sports alongside academic studies for the overall development of students.

“Students must dream big. Regardless of the results, everyone should continue trying with determination. Alongside studies, special importance should also be given to physical exercise and sports,” he said.

The state minister was addressing a scholarship award ceremony organised by the Engineer M A Rashid Foundation at South Point School and College in the capital’s Baridhara area as the chief guest.

At the programme, meritorious students were awarded scholarships, certificates and crests in recognition of their performance in the Class Five scholarship examination.

Mir Shahe Alam also showed the importance of women’s empowerment and highlighted the role of female participation in the education sector.

He said around 80 per cent of the teachers at the institution are women, which reflects the present government’s strong commitment to women’s development and empowerment.

The state minister said the government has already introduced family cards and farmer cards aimed at empowering rural communities, marginal women and farmers across the country.

Highlighting various development initiatives undertaken by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, he mentioned canal excavation projects, nationwide tree plantation programmes and honorarium allowances for imams and muezzins.

He urged all to remain united and continue supporting the country’s ongoing development journey.

A total of 45 students from five branches of South Point School and College received scholarships, certificates and honorary awards at the event.

The administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation, Md Shafiqul Islam Khan, attended the programme as a special guest.

Principals, vice-principals, head teachers and teachers of different branches of South Point School and College, along with guardians and students, were also present on the occasion.
