Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that continued killings along the Bangladesh-India border are creating a serious obstacle to building stable and friendly bilateral relations.

Speaking at the 45th National Council of the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in Dhaka on Sunday, Rizvi questioned the persistence of border shootings, referring to a recent incident in Brahmanbaria where two Bangladeshis were reportedly shot near the frontier.

He said repeated violence along the border undermines efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties between the two neighbouring countries.

“When will this bloodshed stop?” he asked, adding that even people within India do not support such incidents.

He stressed that while India’s internal political affairs are not a concern for Bangladesh, the killing of Bangladeshi citizens at the border remains deeply unacceptable.

Rizvi urged India to abandon what he described as a “violent mindset” if both countries genuinely want to build a sustainable and friendly relationship.

Shifting focus to domestic issues, he said the current government is working to implement its election commitments and highlighted Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s dedication and long working hours in governance. He claimed the administration is focused on practical governance rather than unrealistic political promises.

He also argued that Bangladesh has strong development potential if properly managed, comparing it with countries like Singapore, and said national progress depends on unity and coordinated effort.

Addressing diploma engineers at the event, Rizvi praised their role in national development and assured that their contributions would be recognised. He also said the government would prioritise merit and productivity in development planning.

The event was chaired by Engineer Kabir Hossain and moderated by Engineer Kazi Sakhawat Hossain.
