Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday expressed optimism that Bangladesh’s development partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) would continue to expand through broader cooperation and new joint initiatives.
The remarks came during a courtesy meeting between the minister and KOICA Country Director in Bangladesh Jihoon KIM at the Secretariat in Dhaka, where both sides reviewed ongoing projects and discussed future areas of collaboration.
According to officials, the discussions focused on strengthening bilateral development cooperation and accelerating implementation of projects already underway between Bangladesh and KOICA. The two sides also explored possibilities for launching new programmes aimed at poverty reduction, climate adaptation, sustainable rural development and agricultural expansion.
Particular emphasis was placed on climate-resilient infrastructure development as Bangladesh continues to face increasing environmental challenges linked to climate change. The meeting also highlighted the importance of sustainable rural growth and community-based development initiatives to improve livelihoods in vulnerable areas.
The minister appreciated KOICA’s ongoing support for Bangladesh’s development priorities and said the long-standing friendship between the two sides has created opportunities for meaningful cooperation in several sectors.
KOICA Bangladesh Deputy Country Director Junsu KIM also attended the meeting alongside senior officials from the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division, including Secretary Mohammad Showkat Rashid Chowdhury.
Officials said both sides agreed to continue close coordination in implementing future development programmes and strengthening institutional partnerships in the coming years.
