Bangladesh on Tuesday strongly condemned an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon that killed two Bangladeshi nationals, while expressing deep sorrow over the incident and initiating efforts to repatriate their bodies.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the attack “in the strongest possible terms” and extended condolences to the families of the victims.
The deceased were identified as Shafiqul Islam from Sadar Upazila and Md Nahidul Islam Nahid from Ashashuni Upazila in Satkhira.
According to the foreign ministry, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Lebanon is coordinating with local authorities to complete the required formalities for the early repatriation of the mortal remains.
The embassy is also maintaining communication with the victims’ family members, the statement added.
Bangladesh reiterated its serious concern over the continuing violence in the Middle East and the growing number of civilian casualties resulting from the conflict.
Dhaka called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and uphold international humanitarian law to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
The condemnation comes amid escalating regional tensions and ongoing clashes involving Israel and armed groups operating in southern Lebanon.
