State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has said that the administration and volunteer teams will work together to prevent traffic congestion on the Jamuna Bridge and the Dhaka–Tangail highway ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
He made the remarks on Friday while speaking to journalists before attending the Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti festival at the Tangail Shishu Academy auditorium in the afternoon.
Tuku said coordinated efforts would be taken to reduce public suffering during the Eid journey. He said law enforcement agencies and volunteers would be deployed to help ensure a smoother flow of traffic on major routes.
He also said the administration would issue necessary instructions on the locations of sacrificial animal markets to help manage movement during the festive period.
“The Jamuna Bridge and Dhaka-Tangail highway, being one of the main routes for northbound travellers during Eid, experiences excessive vehicle pressure every year,” Tuku said. “Advance preparations are being taken to make this Eid journey comfortable. Special monitoring will be carried out, particularly on the 13-kilometre highway stretch from Elenga to the Jamuna Bridge.”
The Jamuna Bridge and Dhaka–Tangail corridor is one of the busiest transport routes during Eid travel, with large numbers of people leaving the capital for northern districts. Authorities typically implement special traffic management measures during the period to reduce congestion and delays.
