Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left here by road for Chandpur on Saturday morning on a daylong tour to join a series of programmes, including the inauguration of canal re-excavation, Family Card distribution and a party meeting.

“The Prime Minister’s motorcade began its journey from his Gulshan residence in the city around 8:45 am,” Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman noted.

According to the tour schedule, on his way to Chandpur, PM Tarique Rahman, also the ruling BNP chairman, will address a street rally at the Lakshmipur Bazar ground in Barura upazila of Comilla district at 11:30 am.

He is scheduled to inaugurate the Khordda Canal re-excavation work in the Waruk Bazar area of Tamta Dakshin Union, in Shahrasti Upazila of Chandpur, at 12:30 pm.

At 1:45 pm, the PM will inaugurate the Bishwa Canal re-excavation work adjacent to Ghosh’s Hat in Kumardugi village, Shah Mahmudpur Union, Chandpur Sadar Upazila.

After taking a short break at Chandpur Circuit House, he will join a Family Card distribution ceremony at Chandpur Government College grounds at 3:30 pm.

Later, Tarique Rahman will address an organisational views exchange meeting of the Chandpur district BNP at the Chandpur Club at 5:00 p.m. His schedule is to leave Chandpur for Dhaka by road at 6:30 pm.

This is his first visit to Chandpur after assuming office as Prime Minister.

Tarique Rahman last visited Chandpur in 2004 as the Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP.
