Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday called on citizens to remain alert, saying that certain groups were attempting to create confusion in the name of politics.

Speaking at a Family Card distribution programme at Chandpur Government College ground, the Prime Minister warned that political misinformation should not be allowed to disrupt development efforts.

“A group is spreading confusion in the country in the name of politics. People must stay vigilant,” he said.

He said BNP’s political philosophy is centred on improving people’s living standards through practical development initiatives.

“BNP’s politics means canal dredging, boosting agricultural production, building mills and factories, creating jobs, ensuring healthcare and guaranteeing public safety,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, he cautioned against any attempts to create unrest. “If anyone tries to create confusion or anarchy in the name of politics, will the people remain silent? We will not remain silent. We will resist such attempts,” he added.

The Prime Minister said the government’s programmes are focused on improving the lives of working people. He added that the previous authoritarian regime was removed through a mass movement and that an elected government is now in place to implement public commitments.

During the event, the Family Card programme was simultaneously launched in 20 districts through video conference under the Ministry of Social Welfare.

The Prime Minister handed over cards to ten women beneficiaries in Chandpur and oversaw the digital transfer of Tk2,500 each to around 15,000 recipients across the districts.

He urged everyone to focus on development work, saying nation-building must remain the top priority. “Now is the time to build the country. We must ensure no one can block the path of development,” he said.

The event drew thousands of supporters and locals, effectively turning into a large public gathering.

He also expressed support for local development demands, including the establishment of an EPZ and a Science and Technology University in Chandpur.

Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain presided over the event while Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin, Prime Minister's Adviser Dr Mahdi Amin, Chandpur District BNP President Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik, MP, Md Jalal Ahmed, MP, Rasheda Begum Hira, Zilla Parishad Administrator Advocate Salim Ullah Selim and Social Welfare Secretary Dr Mohammad Abu Yusuf spoke at the event.

Family Card recipients Ruma Akhtar and Monowara Begum also spoke at the event praising the Prime Minister's initiative.

Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, among others, were present at that time.
