JS speaker mourns passing of Mizanur Rahman Sinha

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of former state minister, BNP treasurer and noted industrialist Mizanur Rahman Sinha.

In a condolence message, he prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members, said a press release from the Jatiya Sangsad secretariat.

Mizanur Rahman Sinha was born on August 18, 1943, into a renowned Muslim family in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj district. He passed away on Friday night while undergoing treatment in Singapore. He was 83.

He was the son of the late Hamidur Rahman Sinha, one of the pioneers of Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry and founder of ACME Group, and the late Nurjahan Sinha.

Sinha became involved in politics during his student life. He joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 1990 and served the party for a long time as its central treasurer.

He was elected Member of Parliament from the Munshiganj-2 (Tongibari-Louhajang) constituency in the 1996 and 2001 national elections as a BNP nominee. Later, he served as State Minister for Health and Family Welfare from 2003 to 2006.

On February 2, 2025, he was made convener of the Munshiganj district BNP. He also received the party nomination for the 13th parliamentary election. After falling seriously ill, he was taken to Singapore for advanced treatment.
