Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday attended the Namaj-e-Janaza of former State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mizanur Rahman Sinha at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in Dhaka.
The funeral prayers were held at around 11:30am and were led by Abu Raihan, senior pesh imam of the Jatiya Sangsad mosque, according to the Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.
After the prayers, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the late politician by placing a wreath on his coffin. Speaker Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram; LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir; Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal; cabinet members; lawmakers and political leaders also joined the funeral and later laid wreaths in his honour.
Mizanur Rahman Sinha, who was also managing director of ACME Laboratories Ltd and Group, died at a hospital in Singapore on Friday night at the age of 82.
He was elected a Member of Parliament from the Munshiganj-2 constituency in 1996 and again in 2001 as a BNP candidate. Following the 2001 election, he served as state minister for Health and Family Welfare in the cabinet of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
Sinha also held senior organisational responsibilities within the BNP, serving as treasurer of the party’s central committee. More recently, he had been appointed convener of the Munshiganj District BNP.
