Dubai Taxi Company is set to recruit 6,000 skilled drivers from Bangladesh this year, marking a major overseas employment opportunity for Bangladeshi workers in the transport sector.

The recruitment process will begin with interviews scheduled for Monday at the Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Centre in Dhaka, officials said.

The development came to light during a courtesy meeting held at the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment in the capital on Sunday between Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury and a delegation from Dubai Taxi Company.

During the meeting, the minister thanked the delegation for continuing to recruit Bangladeshi workers and expressed hope that such initiatives would expand further in the future. He assured full cooperation from the ministry to facilitate the recruitment process smoothly.

He also urged the company to ensure proper salaries and allowances for workers during their training period in Dubai. In addition, he requested the recruitment of other skilled professionals from Bangladesh, including doctors and nurses.

Representatives of Dubai Taxi Company said the organisation currently employs around 15,000 workers from 27 countries, including nearly 8,000 Bangladeshis. They added that Bangladeshi drivers are highly preferred due to their skill, discipline and work ethic.

According to the company, about 1,500 drivers will be initially shortlisted through the upcoming interviews, while the overall target is to recruit 6,000 Bangladeshi drivers within the year.

State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque noted that many Bangladeshi workers spend a large amount of money to migrate to Dubai, often relying on loans. He urged authorities to reduce migration costs and keep total expenses within Tk1 lakh to ease the burden on workers.

Officials from Al Anas Overseas also expressed interest in expanding recruitment from Bangladesh beyond drivers to include cleaners, technicians and mechanics.

Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Mokhter Ahmed along with senior officials from the ministry and Dubai Taxi Company attended the meeting.
