Trucks carrying sacrificial animals must display market details: BRTOA

The Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association (BRTOA) has introduced new guidelines for transporting sacrificial animals across the country to ensure smoother movement and reduce harassment on highways ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Under the new directive, trucks carrying sacrificial animals such as cow, goats and buffaloes must display banners at the front of the vehicles clearly mentioning the name and address of the destination cattle market.

The instruction was announced in a press release issued on Monday.

According to the statement, the decision was taken following discussions with the government regarding transportation management during the Eid season, when millions of sacrificial animals are moved from different districts to urban cattle markets.

Secretary General of the BRTOA Md Saiful Alam said the visible display of market information would help law enforcement agencies identify vehicles quickly and provide necessary support during transportation.

He added that the move is also intended to minimise unnecessary delays, harassment and obstacles faced by transporters on highways and roads.

The organisation believes the new system will improve coordination among transport operators, market authorities and law enforcement agencies during the busy Eid period.

Transport operators and drivers have been advised to follow the directive properly while transporting livestock to different cattle markets across the country.

The statement further said that if any truck carrying sacrificial animals encounters difficulties during transportation, the concerned transport workers should immediately seek assistance from law enforcement agencies.

Every year, a large number of livestock are transported nationwide ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, making traffic management and smooth movement of animal-carrying vehicles an important issue during the festive period. Authorities hope the latest measures will help ensure uninterrupted transportation and reduce complications for traders and transport workers.
