Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday spent cheerful moments with children at a day-care centre located at Bhumi Bhaban in the capital’s Tejgaon area, shortly after inaugurating the “Land Service Fair-2026”.
The Prime Minister visited the Children Day-Care Centre operated under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, where he spent around 18 minutes in a lively and informal atmosphere filled with children’s laughter and activity.
Upon his arrival, the Prime Minister interacted freely with the children, who gathered around him excitedly. Some shook hands with him, while others showed their toys and drawings. He appreciated their artwork and responded with smiles and affection, occasionally patting the children on the head and engaging in light conversation.
At one point, the Prime Minister cut a cake together with the children and personally distributed chocolates, toffees, lollipops and gift packets among them. He was heard asking, “Is anyone left? Did everyone get theirs?”
He also playfully asked, “Whose birthday is today?” In response, several children enthusiastically replied, “Mine, Uncle! Mine!” The Prime Minister then said, “Today is everyone’s birthday. Come, let’s cut the cake together,” after which they celebrated together amid applause and cheers inside the room.
One child even offered him a piece of cake during the celebration. The children were later heard chanting, “Happy, happy birthday!” while enjoying the moment.
A child named Ariba expressed her excitement, saying she was very happy to meet the Prime Minister and share cake with him. She also showed the gifts, dolls and sweets received from him.
Day-care centre official Mahia Tasnuva Tamanna briefed the Prime Minister on childcare arrangements and daily activities at the facility. The Prime Minister inquired about food services and stressed the importance of ensuring proper mental development of children.
According to Women and Children Affairs Minister Professor AZM Zahid Hossain, the ministry currently operates 20 such day-care centres across the country, including in Dhaka. He said each centre provides services for children aged four to six for around 10.5 hours daily, with 60 children enrolled and 55 present on the day of the visit.
After spending time with the children, the Prime Minister bid them farewell, waving as the children responded with greetings and salutes.
State Minister for Land Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin was also present, among others.
