Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain on Tuesday said the government is planning to introduce a central emergency alarm system at major public hospitals in Dhaka to ensure the safety of patients, doctors and healthcare workers.
He said the initiative includes launching a “Code Blue” emergency response system to provide rapid security assistance during critical situations in hospitals.
The minister made the announcement while speaking at a ventilators and medical equipment handover ceremony held at the Central Medical Stores Depot (CMSD) in the capital’s Tejgaon area.
He said the system will initially be introduced at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital as pilot projects.
According to him, the government also plans to establish dedicated police camps in the Mohakhali area to strengthen overall security in healthcare institutions.
The minister added that improving hospital safety is a priority to ensure uninterrupted medical services and a secure working environment for healthcare professionals.
He also announced that one pediatric ventilator has been provided for each of the 10 ICU units at 10 district general hospitals across the country. These ICU units are expected to be inaugurated within a week after Eid-ul-Azha.
Officials said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to expand critical care facilities and improve emergency healthcare capacity in district-level hospitals.
The minister stressed that strengthening hospital infrastructure and emergency response systems is essential for improving patient care and ensuring safety in public health facilities nationwide.
