DMP warns leaseholders over cattle market harassment ahead of Eid

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Additional IGP Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Tuesday warned that strict action will be taken against cattle market leaseholders if they harass or forcibly intercept cattle-laden vehicles outside designated markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

He made the warning while presiding over a special coordination meeting at the DMP Headquarters conference room, focusing on security, traffic management and overall preparations for Eid.

The commissioner said no cattle would be allowed to remain outside the boundaries of designated markets, aiming to ensure discipline in cattle trading areas and keep roads free from congestion during the festive period.

He also said the meeting reviewed arrangements for security in cattle markets, transportation of sacrificial animals, and the collection, preservation and marketing of hides.

According to a DMP press release, the commissioner announced that counterfeit currency detection machines will be installed at cattle markets to prevent the circulation of fake notes during Eid transactions.

He also urged all concerned authorities to avoid road excavation during the Eid period and called for coordinated efforts among government agencies to ensure safe and smooth travel for citizens.

At the beginning of the meeting, DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented the overall security and traffic management plan through a PowerPoint presentation.

Representatives from various agencies later joined an open discussion and shared their opinions on Eid-related preparations.

Senior DMP officials, including Additional Commissioners from Crime and Operations, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime, Detective Branch and Traffic divisions, were present at the meeting.

Representatives from intelligence agencies, Bangladesh Bank, livestock department, consumer rights authority, city corporations, fire service, power and utility companies, district administration and other stakeholders, as well as cattle market leaseholders and trade associations, also attended the coordination meeting.
