Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu on Tuesday called for stronger international cooperation to ensure the safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar.
He made the appeal during a meeting with a joint high-level delegation of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Programme (WFP) held at the Secretariat, according to a PID release.
The minister said a coordinated global effort is necessary to find a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis, including improved management of humanitarian assistance and progress toward creating conducive conditions inside Myanmar for repatriation.
The visiting mission was jointly led by UNHCR Deputy High Commissioner Kelly T Clements and WFP Assistant Executive Director Rania Dagash-Kamara.
The delegation also included ambassadors, high commissioners and senior representatives from donor countries and organizations including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the European Commission.
During the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening coordination among international partners, enhancing humanitarian support mechanisms and advancing long-term solutions for the displaced Rohingya population.
Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan and senior officials of the ministry were also present at the meeting.
