Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting focused on the development, environmental protection and sustainable management of the Gulshan-Banani-Baridhara Lake in the capital.
The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Division office at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Prime Minister’s Press Wing.
During the discussion, participants reviewed measures aimed at preventing water pollution in the lake, maintaining ecological balance, improving beautification efforts and enhancing surrounding civic amenities.
Officials concerned presented the current condition of the lake and outlined various proposals and sustainable development initiatives designed to preserve and improve the water body and its surrounding environment.
Key issues discussed included long-term environmental protection strategies, urban planning considerations and steps to ensure that development activities around the lake remain environmentally sustainable.
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher, State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md Safiqul Islam Khan, Prime Minister’s Assistant Private Secretary Abdur Rahman Suny, and RAJUK Chairman Md Reazul Islam attended the meeting.
Senior officials from relevant ministries and agencies were also present.
The meeting emphasised coordinated efforts among city corporations and development authorities to ensure effective implementation of lake conservation and development plans, with a focus on improving urban liveability while protecting the environment.
