A deeply emotional reaction has emerged following the killing of child Ramisa Akter in Dhaka’s Pallabi area, as her father Abdul Hannan Molla voiced strong disappointment with the justice system while speaking to reporters.
Following the incident, he said he no longer expects justice for his daughter’s murder, arguing that past experience has made him lose confidence in the process. In his remarks, he expressed that justice is unlikely to be delivered and suggested that similar incidents often fade from attention over time.
He also stated that although public outrage may last for a short period, such cases tend to be forgotten and repeated incidents continue to occur. According to him, while the loss of his daughter is irreversible, he doubts meaningful accountability will follow.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday in Pallabi, where Ramisa Akter was found dead. Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the case - neighbour Sohel Rana, 30, and his wife Swapna.
According to police briefing, the couple had moved into an apartment opposite the victim’s family only about two months earlier. Investigators said that around 10:30am, the child’s mother noticed her sandals outside the suspects’ residence while searching for her daughter, raising suspicion that the crime may have been underway when she arrived at the door.
Authorities also suspect attempts were made to obstruct discovery of the incident and conceal evidence after the crime. Police further said that investigators are examining possible motives linked to the accused’s behaviour, though details will depend on forensic and post-mortem reports.
Police officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
