Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the trial in the rape and murder case of eight-year-old schoolgirl Ramisa will be completed as quickly as possible, promising what he described as an “exemplary” process once the charge sheet is submitted.

He made the comments on Thursday while speaking at a press briefing at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs, responding to questions on the case.

“We can assure everyone that the exemplary trial in the Ramisa murder case will be completed swiftly through the prompt submission of the charge sheet. However, we cannot comment on the punishment,” he said.

The minister said police had been taking swift and strict action in serious criminal cases since the BNP government came to office, ensuring prompt arrests and investigations.

“You cannot point to any heinous crime since we took office where the matter was ignored or arrests were not made promptly,” he added.

Referring specifically to the Ramisa case, he said the prime accused, Sohel, was arrested within 24 hours of the incident along with his wife. He also said the accused had given a confessional statement before the court.
