Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam on Thursday said the government is working to build a modern, safe and internationally standard communication network across Bangladesh with continued support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The minister made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with a JICA delegation at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
State Minister for Railways and Road Transport and Highways Division Habibur Rashid was also present during the discussion.
The visiting delegation was led by Takahashi Junko, according to a ministry press release.
During the meeting, both sides discussed ongoing and future development projects in Bangladesh’s road transport, bridge, railway and shipping sectors.
The discussions focused on sustainable infrastructure development, the use of advanced technology in transport systems and expanding future cooperation between Bangladesh and JICA.
The minister said the current government is prioritising the modernisation of the country’s transport and communication sectors to ensure safer, faster and more efficient connectivity nationwide.
He also praised JICA’s long-standing role as one of Bangladesh’s key development partners, noting that Japanese support has contributed significantly to major infrastructure projects in the country over the years.
The JICA representatives reaffirmed their interest in continuing collaboration with Bangladesh in infrastructure development and expressed willingness to strengthen cooperation in upcoming projects.
Officials said the government aims to improve regional connectivity, strengthen economic activities and enhance public transportation services through modern infrastructure initiatives backed by international partnerships.
