The government has deployed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel across Dhaka and Gazipur to strengthen public security and help manage traffic congestion ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holiday rush.

Officials said the deployment began on Thursday and will remain in force until three days after Eid day, covering major commercial hubs, transport corridors and densely crowded areas expected to experience heavy movement of home-bound people.

According to authorities, the BGB members will assist law enforcement agencies in maintaining order in key locations of the capital, particularly in busy shopping and transit zones. These include New Market, one of Dhaka’s busiest retail areas, as well as sections of the Elevated Expressway where traffic flow is expected to increase significantly during the holiday period.

In Dhaka District outskirts, BGB personnel will also be stationed in Nabinagar and Baipail, both of which are major entry and exit points for long-distance travellers and industrial workers.

Outside the capital, security operations have been extended to Gazipur, where BGB members are deployed in Gazipur City Corporation areas and at the busy Gazipur four-way intersection, a critical junction for inter-district traffic movement.

Officials said the deployment aims to ensure smoother traffic management, reduce congestion on highways, and support local police in preventing any untoward incidents during the Eid travel period.

With millions expected to travel from the capital to their hometowns, authorities have taken additional precautionary measures to ensure safe and orderly movement across major transport routes.

Security agencies have also been instructed to remain vigilant throughout the holiday period as part of broader nationwide Eid preparedness measures.
