Eleven more people have died with measles and measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Friday, as the contagious disease continued to spread across the country.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services, two of the deaths were confirmed measles cases, while the remaining nine were classified as suspected measles-related deaths.

The health authority also recorded 1,261 new suspected cases and 54 confirmed infections during the same period. The latest figures bring the total number of confirmed measles deaths to 85 and confirmed infections to 8,329 since 15 March, when the Directorate General of Health Services began tracking measles-related data nationwide.

Health officials have not yet released further details on the locations of the new cases or deaths, but the continued rise in infections has raised concerns over the spread of the highly contagious disease.
