The investigation into the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa in Dhaka’s Pallabi area has entered its final stage, with police expecting to receive the DNA report on Saturday and submit the charge-sheet to court by Sunday.
According to investigators, the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) examination related to the case has already been completed. Officials said the charge-sheet preparation is now largely dependent on receiving the final forensic report.
Sub-Inspector Ahiduzzaman of Pallabi Police Station, who is leading the investigation, said the police are ready to file the formal charge sheet once the report reaches them.
The prime accused, arrested on 20 May, earlier gave a confessional statement before a Dhaka court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid recorded the statement and later ordered the accused to be sent to jail.
Investigators said the accused admitted to consuming yaba before committing the crime. According to the confession, he described how he lured the child into a room before carrying out the murder and later attempted to destroy evidence and flee the scene.
Police also said the investigation found no indication of any previous conflict or enmity between the accused and the victim’s family.
The victim’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, filed the case with Pallabi Police Station on 20 May. On the same day, police produced both the accused and his wife before the court and sought necessary orders regarding the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have indicated that they are trying to complete the legal process quickly amid widespread public outrage over the brutal killing.
