Directorate General of Health Services has reported another sharp rise in measles-related deaths and infections, with 13 children dying in the last 24 hours until 8am on Saturday, marking the second highest single-day death toll since the outbreak began in March.
According to official data, the latest fatalities pushed the overall death toll linked to measles and related symptoms to 512 since 15 March 2026.
Among the newly reported deaths, one child was confirmed to have died from measles, while the remaining 12 cases were classified as suspected measles-related deaths pending further verification.
Health authorities said Dhaka and Sylhet divisions recorded the highest number of suspected deaths during the period, with four fatalities each.
The DGHS data showed that confirmed measles deaths now stand at 86, while another 426 deaths remain under the suspected category.
The country also witnessed a fresh rise in infections. In the past 24 hours alone, 1,967 suspected measles cases were recorded nationwide, taking the cumulative number of suspected infections to 62,507.
At the same time, 165 new confirmed cases were detected, increasing the total confirmed measles infections to 8,494.
Since the outbreak started in mid-March, a total of 49,389 suspected patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country. Of them, 45,011 patients have recovered, according to the DGHS.
Public health experts have repeatedly warned that the outbreak remains a major concern despite intensified vaccination drives and awareness campaigns. Authorities continue urging parents to vaccinate children and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms appear.
