Law enforcement agencies across Bangladesh have initiated a sweeping, nationwide security operation to safeguard the country’s critical transport corridors, maritime trade routes, and public hubs ahead of the upcoming Eid ul-Adha celebrations.
Under direct instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs, a joint taskforce comprising the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Bangladesh Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar, the Coast Guard, and various intelligence agencies has been mobilised. The coordinated effort aims to maintain public order, protect commercial logistics, and prevent criminal disruption during one of the region’s busiest travel periods.
To ensure seamless coordination, authorities have established a specialised, central monitoring cell at the Police Headquarters. Operating under the supervision of the Home Minister, this command unit will remain active around the clock throughout the festive season to oversee operations and manage dedicated emergency hotlines.
A major focus of the security blueprint involves securing essential supply chains, particularly the livestock markets that form the economic backbone of the festival. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that stringent measures will be implemented to combat extortion, illegal tolls, and financial fraud.
In the capital, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) are deploying advanced surveillance measures. Major market sites are being equipped with closed-circuit television (CCTV) networks, high-intensity lighting, and dedicated security outposts. Furthermore, specialised booths fitted with counterfeit currency detectors will be operational to secure financial transactions against fraud syndicates.
Transit networks are receiving unprecedented levels of oversight to manage the millions of citizens traveling across the country. On the highways and rail networks, increased patrols and strategic checkpoints have been set up to prevent disruption and ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
Simultaneously, the River Police have increased waterborne patrols across the country’s extensive riverine network. Maritime authorities are strictly enforcing safety regulations, focusing on preventing the dangerous overcrowding of vessels and halting the operation of unseaworthy launches along key river routes.
Complementing these domestic measures, the Border Guard Bangladesh has reinforced its presence along international frontiers and sensitive border regions to prevent cross-border crime and ensure regional stability during the holidays. Authorities emphasise that the heightened state of readiness will be maintained until the post-festival travel rush subsides, assuring the public that all necessary steps have been taken to maintain safety and economic continuity.
