State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj on Saturday stressed that public participation and cooperation are essential for implementing development activities effectively in Bangladesh.
Speaking at a views-exchange meeting with leaders of the Chand Udyan Housing and Home Owners' Association and local residents in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area, he said development projects often face obstacles due to lack of cooperation from residents.
The state minister noted that road construction and expansion become difficult when people are unwilling to vacate occupied spaces or encroachments. “Development is not possible without support from the public. Everyone must work together in the greater interest of the community,” he said.
Boby Hajjaj said the government plans to address civic problems in Mohammadpur and surrounding housing societies in a systematic manner. He added that initiatives have already been taken to establish a police station in Bosila area to help reduce crime and strengthen law enforcement.
Highlighting the importance of maintaining a clean and liveable environment, he warned that strict action would be taken against those who dump garbage on roads or leave waste materials outside their homes.
He also spoke about improving facilities for children and residents, saying arrangements would be made to create playgrounds for healthy recreation. To improve security, he advised residents to install lights in front of their homes and encouraged the use of CCTV cameras wherever possible.
Addressing complaints over gas shortages, the state minister assured residents that discussions would be held with Titas Gas authorities to find quick solutions to the problem.
Local residents, community leaders and people from different professions attended the programme.
