A special tribunal in the capital has scheduled the formal indictment hearing for the beginning of June regarding the alleged sexual assault and murder of an eight-year-old schoolgirl in Dhaka’s Pallabi area.
On Sunday, Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Children Violence Suppression Tribunal accepted the formal police investigation report and ordered the charge framing hearing to take place on June 1.
The decision follows the submission of the official charge sheet by investigators earlier that day. The documents name the primary suspect, identified as local resident Sohel Rana, alongside his wife, Swapna Akter.
The victim, Ramisa Akter, was a second-grade pupil at the Popular Model High School in Pallabi. According to the investigation, the young girl was assaulted and subsequently decapitated on May 19 inside a flat belonging to Rana, who lived adjacent to the family in the Millat Camp neighbourhood.
Following the incident, the victim’s father initiated formal legal proceedings by filing a criminal case at the local Pallabi police station the following day. Both suspects are now awaiting the upcoming tribunal hearing, which will determine the precise legal charges they will face at trial.
