A fire broke out at the Kalshi slum in Dhaka’s Pallabi area on Monday evening, prompting a large response from the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
According to fire officials, the incident was reported at 7:23pm. Two firefighting units were initially dispatched to the scene at around 7:32pm. Five additional units later joined the operation as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control.
Warehouse Inspector Anwarul Islam from the Fire Service and Civil Defence media cell said shortages of water were hampering firefighting efforts.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. There was also no immediate information on casualties or the extent of the damage.
