A massive fire that broke out at the Kalshi slum in Dhaka’s Pallabi area on Monday evening was brought under control after nearly two hours of firefighting efforts, officials said.
According to the Media Cell of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, firefighters received information about the blaze at around 7:23pm.
Following the alert, 13 firefighting units rushed to the scene and worked to contain the fire. The blaze was finally brought under control at approximately 9:35pm, said FSCD control room duty officer Rakibul Islam.
Fire Service officials said the operation faced challenges due to a shortage of water in the area, making it more difficult for firefighters to contain the flames quickly.
FSCD Media Cell official Anwarul Islam Dolon said firefighters continued efforts to prevent the fire from spreading further through the densely populated slum area.
The extent of damage and possible casualties could not be confirmed immediately.
Authorities also said the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is expected to be conducted to determine how the blaze started.
