Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General (DG) Additional IGP Md Ahsan Habib Palash on Tuesday said law enforcement agencies have not identified any specific security threat ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, although extensive precautionary measures are being implemented nationwide to ensure public safety during the holiday period.
Speaking to reporters at the National Eidgah Maidan on the Supreme Court premises in Dhaka, the RAB chief said the country’s overall law and order situation remains stable and no unusual activity has been detected so far.
“We are not sensing any threat at this moment, but all necessary operational and security arrangements have been kept in place,” he said.
Ahsan Habib Palash said RAB, alongside other law enforcement agencies, has intensified security preparations in areas expected to witness large public gatherings during Eid prayers and holiday travel.
He said special patrols and mobile check-posts have been deployed in vulnerable and strategic locations across the country to strengthen surveillance and prevent criminal activities.
The RAB chief noted that incidents such as theft, robbery and burglary often increase in major cities during Eid holidays as many residents leave for their village homes. To address this, the elite force has increased day-and-night patrols and strengthened intelligence monitoring in residential areas.
He also urged citizens to remain alert and contact the RAB control room or national emergency helpline 999 if they notice any suspicious activities.
According to the DG, security has been tightened at bus terminals, railway stations, launch terminals, ferry ghats and cattle markets to ensure safe travel and prevent harassment of passengers and traders.
RAB has also enhanced online monitoring and intelligence surveillance to curb rumours, counterfeit currency circulation, food adulteration, illegal hoarding and price manipulation during the Eid period.
Ahsan Habib Palash added that the force is monitoring cattle transportation routes to prevent vehicles from being forcibly diverted to particular markets, while special drives against counterfeit currency syndicates are continuing across the country.
He expressed hope that Eid congregations and holiday activities would conclude peacefully without any untoward incidents this year.
