The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has undertaken extensive preparations to ensure the swift removal of sacrificial animal waste during Eid-ul-Azha, deploying nearly 16,000 sanitation workers and more than 750 waste transport vehicles across the capital.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at a coordination meeting on Eid waste management held at the DNCC Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan. The meeting was chaired by DNCC Administrator Md Safiqul Islam Khan, while State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam attended as the chief guest.

Speaking at the event, the state minister said the government has issued special instructions to city corporations regarding management of cattle markets, rawhide preservation, traffic congestion and waste disposal during Eid celebrations.

He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman directed all city corporations to ensure sacrificial waste is removed within 12 hours after Eid prayers to maintain cleanliness and public health safety.

DNCC Administrator Safiqul Islam Khan said the corporation is aiming to complete the cleanup operation even before the government deadline expires.

As part of the preparations, DNCC has already distributed around 16.3 lakh polybags among residents for proper disposal of animal waste. The corporation has also supplied 3,600 sacks of bleaching powder, 1,348 cans of phenyl and 3,900 cans of Savlon to maintain hygiene and prevent foul odours in residential areas.

To raise public awareness, DNCC has launched several campaigns using loudspeakers, digital billboards, mobile SMS services and distribution of nearly 50,000 leaflets. Imams at local mosques are also encouraging people to maintain cleanliness during Eid-ul-Azha through Friday sermons.

Senior DNCC officials, including the chief executive officer, chief engineer, waste management and health officials, along with media representatives, attended the meeting.
